I didnt see anyone mention the tree - when you asked 'what is on that tree?' Thats usually a hawthorn tree which is often associated with the fairy folk and people leave momento tied to the tree and its considered very dangerous to take anything from the tree. If you come here Kerry is one of the best places to visit but I did take a friend on a tour from Dublin that did Trimcastle, Loughcrew (tombs you can go into), The Hill of Uisneach (Amaazingg for irish mythology) Hill of Tara. Theres honestly so many amazing places you can go to...I almost pity you having to choose.

I had the pleasure of knowing Fred when I was at College in Bolton in the early 90's. He had by then dismantled most of the tall chimneys in the Northwest of England, due to the collapse of the mill industry in the area! Most of the chimneys were felled from setting a fire at the base after knocking a large hole in the side! Hand dismantling was only done when there was no room to fell it from the base ! His other passion was his love of traction engines, from building one from close to scratch to traveling round all the local fairs with his, towing a bothy on wheels that he enjoyed a brew and a blether with those who visited him! Guns are just rare but not hard to come by if you know the right person. Low powered air rifles shoot metals bbs not bullets. They can be spring loaded, co2 or air compressor operated. I don’t know why the road has this reputation. I drove it in my late teens in the sixties in a car with a three speed box without problems. The worst driving difficulty I ever had was descending the Grossglockner in Germany behind a Fiat 500 of the old sort whose bottom gear was lower than my 2 litre Cortina! Smoking discs at bottom! The danger in Lake District is driving at night on roads like Bootle Overfell when the black sheep sleep in the road at night and the lights we had in the sixties were not as good as now. You looked for the eyes and which way does the road go as you swing over the top of the hill. Wonderful driving experience for a young man and the lessons stay for a lifetime. Just don’t try and make a race track of it. Motorcycles did not used to have problems with it and pre war they were makes like Zenith Gradua; now look that up you modern boys that was a bike!
